Tournament Director Wilma Vialled called the room to order at 8:30 and laid down the law. SCRABBLE® players being who they are, this led to an enthusiastic 20 minutes question and answer session on the finer points of the British rule system. Ricky Gonzalez was mistakenly entered into the pairings, despite his inability to attend this year. His misfortune was English second alternate Femi Awowade's (Eng) good fortune, as he unexpectedly gets to play. At the first table, 15-year-old David Eldar (AUS) played an exciting and close game against defending champion Panupol Sujjayakorn (Wsc). See the online games section for the play-by-play. |
