Back to Live Coverage Commentary: Round 8[ Congratulations to the new World Scrabble® Champion, Adam Logan (CAN), and the runner-up Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA). ] Go to: Registration, Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 5, Round 6, Round 7, Round 8, Round 9, Round 10, Round 11, Round 12, Round 13, Round 14, Round 15, Round 16, Round 17, Round 18, Round 19, Round 20, Round 21, Round 22, Round 23, Round 24. It's the last round of the day, and the staff are looking a little tired. The players at this end of the room at least are as gung-ho as ever, and as I write this, Paul Cleary (AUS) leads against the undefeated Adam Logan (CAN) 216-215. This ended up being the most exciting game of the day: it's a must see. David Boys (CAN) faces Russell Byers (Eng) at Table 2, and Ganesh Asirvatham (MYS) is playing Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (THA) at Table 3. That's the first row of tables in the room, where there's only one game per table. The rest of the players are playing at long tables seating a dozen players each. There's a general meeting scheduled of WESPA, the World English SCRABBLE® Players Association tonight at 7:00, where they will formally appoint their new committee and ratify their constitution. I have added one small feature to the team pages: if you hover over a player's rank indicator, you should see his or her name pop up. Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) came by to say that Paloma Raychbart (ISR) triple-tripled REPRISES against him for 149 points, but he beat her 506-484 after sticking her with the Q! David Boys (CAN) was elated in the lobby, having overcome a 150-point deficit to win his last game. I'm pretty happy now too: if we ended the tournament now, Canada would earn an extra player at the next WSC. |
